The Biden administration faced intense backlash online after the U.S. Military used its resources to attack Fox News host Tucker Carlson who called into question the military’s combat effectiveness.

Carlson this week compared the priorities of the Chinese military and the United States military and suggested that maternity flight suits should not necessarily be at the top of the list if the primary goal was winning wars.

“So we’ve got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits. Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It’s a mockery of the U.S. military,” Carlson said. “While China’s military becomes more masculine … our military needs to become, as Joe Biden says, more feminine. It’s out of control, and the Pentagon’s going along with this. Again, this is a mockery of the U.S. military and its core mission, which is winning wars.”

Biden administration officials in the U.S. military repeatedly attacked Carlson over his comments through official government social media accounts and the Department of Defense’s government website, with U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Scott H.Stalker suggesting that Carlson’s criticisms were not valid because they were “made by an individual who has never served a day in his life,” and a segment of the U.S. Marines—II MEF Information Group—calling out Carlson on its official government Twitter account, saying, “Get right before you get left, boomer.”

“China’s military is laughing at the U.S. Marines for getting triggered by a TV host and ignoring their military buildup in the Pacific,” Human Events Managing Editor Ian Miles Cheong mocked military officials.

“This is an official DOD Twitter account getting mouthy with a member of the public who told them to focus on China instead of Tucker Carlson. Whoever is manning this Twitter account should be fired. Immediately,” political strategist Arthur Schwartz reacted.

“If a member of the United States military high command under Trump released a video in uniform in his government office going after Jim Acosta or Don Lemon or Morning Joe, they would have to clear graphite off the roof of CNN. Here journalists are silent,” political commentator Stephen Miller wrote.

“As a female Marine that served in II MEF, this attack on a reporter’s free speech from an official account is completely unacceptable,” Michele Perez Exner, who works for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said.

“The Pentagon doesn’t critique propaganda from hostile foreign powers but they just launched an attack on an American journalist,” wrote Donald Trump Jr.
